Guwahati, my home place was known by Pragjyotishpur during the vedic times.It meant "the light of the east".As such it is a very old city, the exact date of whose foundation is not known.
From a sleepy town, it has today become a bustling metropolis, with its fair share of problems. The fact that it is the gateway to the North - East has compounded matters further. Dispur, the capital of Asom, is a part of Greater Guwahati.
